1. Sweat It Out
Sweating is one of the best ways to detoxify the body. The primary reason we sweat is to regulate body temperature, but sweating has plenty of other benefits as well! It can help to support the immune system by eliminating toxins, keep the body at a temperature high enough to kill unwanted bacteria and viruses, and cleanse the pores to help maintain beautiful, clean skin. So make sure you are "sweating" regularly - a long jog, a hot yoga session, or even an infrared sauna visit can help you sweat your way to detoxification.
2. Help Your Body Stay Regular
Regular bowel movements are an important aspect of good health! Improving how "regular" you are can help to detox your body because bowel movements are the body's most natural way to rid itself of waste products. In addition, the gut plays a huge role in the health of the immune system. The more regular you are, the healthier you will be! This can be achieved by eating the right foods, such as a diet high in fruits, vegetables, and fiber, drinking plenty of water and liquids throughout the day, and going when the urge hits rather than holding it in. Regular colon hydrotherapy sessions are also a great way to keep the colon functioning at its best.

4. Go Organic!
Going organic is a huge step towards treating your body right! Organic food, by definition, is food that has been grown in its most natural state and without the use of harmful chemicals, such as pesticides or hormones. With organic produce, no pesticides have been used and natural fertilizers and growth methods have helped to sustain the growth of the plant. With organic meat and dairy, the animals in question have not been given hormones, and have been fed a diet that is also organic, non-GMO, and hormone-free. Because these chemicals may have a negative effect on the body, try to shop and eat organic whenever you can!
5. Detox Your Mental Health
Your mental well-being is just as important as your physical well-being. There are a multitude of factors that can play into your mental health, including your social, financial, and nutritional health, just to name a few. While some of these factors may be more difficult to change than others, it's still important to find balance in our daily situations. Some of the most beneficial "exercises" for a healthy state of mind can include practicing a positive mindset, reducing stress through activities such as yoga or meditation, regular physical activities, and eating a healthy, well-balanced diet.
Turmeric is a perennial plant in the ginger family that has a long history of use as a potent anti-inflammatory. The dried, crushed root has been used for centuries for inflammatory conditions, cardiovascular disease, gastric issues, and more. This delicious, healing latte is the perfect drink for the upcoming chilly weather!
2 cups of canned coconut milk*
1 1/4 tsp. turmeric**
½ tsp. cinnamon
¼-1/2 inch of fresh, peeled and grated ginger root or ¼ tsp. ginger powder
1 tsp. raw honey/maple syrup OR liquid stevia to taste (optional)
1. Blend all ingredients on high until very smooth.
2. Pour the milk combination into a small saucepan and heat for 3-5 minutes over medium heat until steaming. Enjoy!
* If using full fat canned coconut milk, you might dilute with a bit of water. I usually do 1/2 cup water mixed with one cup of canned coconut milk to make a good consistency coconut milk. Most of the time I just “eyeball” it and don’t measure. This mixture can then be used in the recipe as the coconut milk.
**The turmeric may stain your blenders and countertops. The color will eventually fade, but making a thick paste of baking soda and water and scrubbing the stain can help.
We're seeing "cold and flu season" begin here in Los Angeles. The weather is getting chilly and autumn will soon give way to winter. Our bodies are perfectly designed to overcome these cold-season bugs before they turn into full-blown illness, if we take care of ourselves!
Here are a few tips for boosting your immunity and surviving the season...
1. Let Your Body Do Its Work.
Make sure you give your body rest and relaxation time so it has a chance to build strength and fight infection. It knows how to fight infection if you give it the opportunity. Try taking some time on the weekend to read or sit in the sunshine. Sleeping in for one extra hour in the morning, or going to bed one hour earlier will make a huge difference in your ability to fight infection. This extra rest will help with prevention, and also with recovery if you're already sick.
2. Use Halotherapy To Clear Your Airways And Kill Germs!
For centuries, monks used naturally-occurring salt caverns to treat respiratory ailments. Today, man-made salt rooms recreate salt caverns. Salt actively kills bacteria, clears mucous and reduces the inflammation in the respiratory system. Regular and consistent Halotherapy, 2-3 times a week, can help prevent the common coughs and colds, runny nose and earaches.
In our Himalayan Salt Room, the air is ionized with negatively charged ions from the Himalayan Pink Salt floor, and saturated with a natural concentration of NaCl (salt), which is diffused into the room. This combination creates a curative environment identical to the micro-climate of salt caves.
Halotherapy helps with strengthening the immune system, breaking up stagnated mucous, and widening and cleaning the airways, among many other benefits!
3. Use Elderberries To Boost Immunity.
Elderberries have been shown to provide protection and relief from cold and flu symptoms, mainly due to their high anthocyanidin content. You can find them in supplement or syrup form. We carry an elderberry supplement here at The Guardian of Health that blends elderberry with blueberry and black cherry extracts for extra immunity and protection!
